Same Page

Wisdom of the Aged I'm trying to keep at these blog posts on a weekly basis. We are still in May, which brings to mind Mother's Day; I have a lot to say about that. And it also brings to mind my 25th wedding anniversary to Doug; and I have a lot to say about that, too. Ah, but I will table those topics for a short while more and perhaps for another venue. Time will tell. And time  is what brings me to this week's topic. As in growing-older-time. Which we all experience. I heard an interview on NPR with a couple who works with the elderly, and I learned that May is American Senior Citizen Month--or something like that. One major take-away was about how fast our world moves now that we can and do glean instant information and immediate communication from a palm-held device. Even We Women It is Friday. I am working my school job for which I am highly qualified and grossly underpaid. But at least it's the last day of my work week. A very exhausting week at that--but that's nothing new. I am sifting through the layers of mush-brain to decide what to write about in this so far unpromoted blog. Hmm...Immigration? Politics...Schools...Capitalism...Privilege? The answer comes to me as I rush out the school door to make it to my volunteer gig with Truth be Told. Driving to the carpool location, I think to myself, "Let's see how this evening goes and if I have anything to say." It went and I did. I believe it was my third TBT visit to the Lockhart women's prison. I would once again serve as a respectful witness with 30 other women and men from the outside. We were present for 17 graduates who left their cells once a week for four months to be in community with other neighbors. Through writing and movement, they did the hard wor...

Who is this Blog For? Well, it's for friends and family who are on the same page. I'm not interested in spending the time and energy in this blog to convince you of what I (hopefully, we) already know to be true. Racism is real. Immigrants are people. Gays are people. War is not the answer. Love our neighbor without exception. Schools should be for kids. The system needs to change, not the climate. The only difference between rich and poor is that rich people have money. People of color are people. Muslims are people... We don't have to be in the same boat. In fact, we each have our own piece to author, our own peace to offer. But for any worthwhile conversation to occur through this blog, we have to be on the same page.  I look forward to sharing our stories.
